Hobbies: Mountain biking, skiing, scuba diving, rugby, hiking, cycling

Why Rheumatology: “I grew up an avid athlete. In college I played division I rugby. I had many injuries that really set me back not to mention the pain that came with them. I learned from a young age how important having a healthy musculoskeletal system is. I know what it feels like to have joint, ligament, tendon, and muscle pain, so I am better able to empathize and care for my patients—that is what I love about rheumatology!”

Teaching: Dr. Buchfuhrer often gives lectures to other physicians on rheumatology topics such as gout. She teaches at several local medical residency programs and at times even has residents in her clinic learning from her hands on.

Dr. Buchfuhrer co-wrote the chapter on RLS in Clinical Sleep Medicine with her father, Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer. The book was written primarily by Stanford physicians and professors. Sleep medicine has always and continues to be a strong interest for Dr. Buchfuhrer.

On Father’s Day 2021, The Long Beach Press Telegram wrote about Dr. Buchfuhrer opening up her practice side by side with her father. It made the front page, featuring a lengthy half page article.

The Downey Patriot took great interest in the father-daughter duo that is Drs. Buchfuhrer. On July 9th, 2021 Drs. Buchfuhrer were featured in another half page article. We are very proud that the city of Downey and its people have been so supportive of us.
